Code of conduct

Kampala Gophers is an open community. Everyone is welcome at our meetups, workshops, tournaments, online channels and repositories — from students writing their first main.go to engineers running Go in production.

We pledge to make participation a harassment-free experience for everyone, regardless of age, body size, disability, ethnicity, sex characteristics, gender identity and expression, level of experience, education, socio-economic status, nationality, personal appearance, race, religion, or sexual identity and orientation.

Be friendly and patient. Be welcoming — especially to people who are new to Go or new to tech.

Be considerate: your work and words affect others. Be respectful: not all of us will agree all the time, but disagreement is no excuse for poor behaviour.

Be careful in the words you choose. When we disagree, try to understand why — and critique ideas, never people.

Harassment, intimidation, or discrimination in any form, in person or online.

Offensive comments related to any of the characteristics listed above; sexual language and imagery at any community event, including talks, workshops, socials and online media.

Deliberate intimidation, stalking or following; unwelcome photography or recording; sustained disruption of talks or events; unwelcome physical contact or sexual attention.

Advocating for, or encouraging, any of the above.

This code applies to all Kampala Gophers spaces — meetups, workshops, tournaments, social events, our WhatsApp and social channels, GitHub organisation, and any space where someone represents the community.

If you experience or witness unacceptable behaviour, speak to any organizer at the event (look for the organizer badge), or email the organizers — see the contact below. All reports are handled in confidence.

We will respond as quickly as possible and, where appropriate, keep you updated on the outcome. You will never be penalised for reporting in good faith.

Organizers may take any action they deem appropriate, including a warning, removal from an event without refund, or a ban from future events and online spaces.
